Bursaries and Assisted Places

The Governors of the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools are committed to broadening access to the schools by offering to eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with payment of school fees.  Such support is known as a Bursary or Assisted Place and these may be awarded in the form of a discount of up to 100% on tuition fees, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of the applicants.

Bursaries

A Bursary may be applied for by parents who feel they are unable to accept a place without financial help.  All awards are subject to a review each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on parental circumstances.

Financial support may be made available to parents/guardians of children entering Inglefield House or Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls.  Parents/guardians seeking financial assistance are required to complete an application form which seeks to establish the financial circumstances of the household.  The form, which requests details of income and capital, must be accompanied by full documentary evidence.  The amount of financial assistance is not influenced by the level of academic ability of the child, but by the extent of need.  Each case is assessed on its own merits and awards are made accordingly, subject to the school’s ability to fund these within the context of what is viable within the context of its overall budget.

The schools respect the confidentiality of awards and assisted places made to families and recipients are expected to do likewise.

Assisted Places

An Assisted Place is for parents whose joint income is below £40,000.

The Assisted Places Scheme was set up by the Governors of the two Monmouth Schools to replace the former Government Scheme and is for parents with relatively low income.  The cost of the Scheme is met out of endowment income arising from the original gift in 1614 by the School’s founder and benefactor, William Jones.
