HMSG wins medals in Physics Olympiad

Three members of Year 12, Alice, Cindy and Annie, completed this year’s A-level project, in which they were required to investigate Newton’s Law of Cooling.

Newton's law of cooling states that the rate of heat loss of a body is proportional to the difference in temperatures between the body and its surroundings.

The girls replicated the experiment Newton carried out (with the help of an electric hair dryer, which Newton did not have), analysed their findings and produced a detailed report in December. When the results were announced in the New Year, only 16 medals were awarded in the whole of the UK. Alice, Cindy and Annie were, therefore, delighted to hear that they had been awarded Bronze Medals.
