Overseas Students

International Students play a very important part in the life of HMSG. Currently we have girls from the UAE, USA, Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, China and Nigeria to name but a few living alongside our UK boarders.

It can be a daunting prospect moving, often half way around the world, to a new place, new school, full of new people. We can promise your student a HUGE welcome and it won’t be long before she really does regard us as her ‘second’ family. We are extremely proud of the pastoral care we offer to each and every one of our pupils.

We very much welcome enquiries from overseas students wishing to join Inglefield House or HMSG. There is currently a small number of overseas students and we take great care to maintain a good balance of British and international students in the boarding houses.

All students whose parents reside overseas are required to have a suitable educational guardian.  This is someone with whom they can reside during half term holidays or weekends when the school closes and who can act in case of emergency.  It is the responsibility of parents to arrange their daughter’s guardian and not the school.  It is imperative that the school is kept up to date of any changes of guardianship.

English as an Additional Language

HMSG welcomes pupils from all social and ethnic backgrounds, with a wide range of language backgrounds. This is reflected in the care and attention that is given in the tutor groups, classes and in the boarding houses.

The EAL department at HMSG offers support to students for whom English is an additional language, according to each of their needs. We aim to support pupils’ learning so that each student can fully access the curriculum and display curriculum knowledge. We require pupils to reach a satisfactory standard in the examination so that all areas of the curriculum can be accessed. We understand that cultural and linguistic heritage impacts on learning and use of language and, as a community, we aim to support and learn from cultural diversity.
