Friends of HMSG provides an active link between parents, staff and others associated with both Senior School and Inglefield House.

Our aim is to be a welcoming and proactive network which brings parents together, creates a sense of community and builds strong relationships with the school; a network which ultimately helps enhance the educational experience and well-being of all our daughters.

As your daughter progresses through the school, it’s all too easy to become ‘semi-detached’… there’s the excellent bus service, or you do drop-off and pick-up, possibly without even killing your engine… you attend Parents’ Evenings and maybe some of the presentations and information events… but that’s just a few hours a year… and if your daughter is a Boarder, you’re even more removed from everyday school life.  Friends is an opportunity to re-connect, to put faces to names, to get involved (as much or as little as you like) and to help make a difference.  If you can’t join us in person, you can always join us on Facebook

It is YOUR Friends!  Every parent is automatically a member and currently the majority of our funding is provided by your subscriptions, supplemented by Gift Aid as we are a registered charity.

We use those funds to provide financial support for projects of a wide ranging nature, for the benefit of all the girls, and which fall outside the normal budgets of the school.  In recent years we have provided funding for the climbing wall, the Inglefield House Library Bus, a considerable amount of sports and extra-curricular equipment, a new 3D printer for the DT department, the steps down to the sports pitches: the list goes on!

Socially, we arrange events every term, ranging from formal Balls to informal Quiz Nights, the regular Termly Teas, or Pimms and strawberries on Sports Day.  We are always open to new ideas and plan to increase the variety of social events we offer.  We’re also planning to become more active in supporting local community and charitable initiatives in Monmouth.  Set dates in our diary include the School Open days, where we’re on hand to support staff and talk to prospective parents and pupils from a parental point of view; and the Year 7 Social, to welcome parents and pupils into Senior School.

The Friends Committee consists of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, the Heads of Senior School and Inglefield House and staff representatives.  We meet twice each term to plan events, discuss projects put forward by staff or pupils and consider and vote on requests for financial support.  Meetings are open and friendly: please do come along and find out more about what we do.

If you’re interested in learning more about Friends, please feel free to contact one of the committee members, connect with us on Facebook or email

Jazz Café with the Jazz Crusaders

Come and relax in our very own Jazz Café. Enjoy drinks al fresco (if the weather’s kind to us), a delicious buffet and licenced bar, with the Jazz Crusaders providing a fabulous atmosphere. It’s an informal, social affair; not your typical concert!  And it’s Mr Conway’s last Jazz Café, plus the school’s 125 anniversary year… so let’s make it a special night to remember.
