Swimmer strikes gold

March 8, 2016

Ellie HortonEllie Horton, a dedicated Year 9 pupil at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, continues to impress in the swimming pool and has hit top spot in Wales.

In the recent Regional Championships Ellie claimed a gold, two silvers and three bronze medals in the pool for her performances in back stroke, breast stroke and individual medley.

Ellie also achieved a string of personal bests, catapulting her to the top spot in Wales for her age group in the 200 meter breaststroke.

Mrs Karen Horton, Ellie’s mother, said “Ellie doesn’t tend to shout about it [her achievements] but we are delighted with her hard work”.

The past few weeks have been very busy for Ellie and her loyal parents who have travelled the country with the young swimmer.

“It is an important time of year for all the club swimmers as the times are qualifiers for the Open National Competition at Easter” explained Mrs Horton.

Ellie is a strong position as she heads into the competition and we wish her every success for the event.

Ellie will also be entering the Burnham-On-Sea Aquathlon on March 20th, alongside fellow Haberdashers’ pupil Lucy Creasey and HMSG P.E teacher Mrs Caroline Jones. Good luck ladies!
